Durable Slate Wins National Awards

Judges for the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) awarded the Association's 2006 Gold Circle Award to The Durable Slate Company for the restoration of the copper and stained glass cupola of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, Ohio.

This award recognizes outstanding workmanship in the steep slope roofing category - including particularly challenging projects, difficult design jobs, abnormal working conditions, and difficult materials used.

It is always a challenge to reproduce elements of an historic structure. In this case the cupola was 100 years old - a landmark in Lancaster of historic significance to the town and the entire county.

Not only was the reproduction successfully fabricated without access to the original plans, but also the unusual dimensions of the original design were duplicated with precise accuracy. In addition, the craftsmen, who both planned and executed the work, improved the way in which the cupola was attached to the roof beyond the scope of the original installation.

In addition to the Gold Circle Award for outstanding workmanship, Durable Slate also received the NRCA Gold Circle Safety Award, recognizing the extreme challenge of creating a safe environment during this project.
