This project involved a complete "roof down" restoration of this classic home. We corrected structural problems and physical alterations to the original construction in order to restore the home to its original period style.

A new black slate roof was installed. A combination of cut corner and square slate in twelve inch and six inch sizes were used to create a pattern, which is visible in the photo of the eyebrow dormer above.

The original cedar shakes were removed as they were encrusted with lead paint and beyond salvage or repair.

"Off-the-shelf" siding had been added to the building. This was removed and replaced with a custom-made, style-appropriate product.

Ghost images of old balusters were found in the open areas between the vertical supports on the front porch. A period-appropriate baluster style was created and carried throughout the project.

The original configuration of the covered drive (porte cochere) and porch had been changed. We found evidence of the original stairs within the porch and installed split-face rock to match the existing foundation stones.

The corner of the building was sinking. A new footer with steel reinforcement was installed to support the floor joists. During repair, evidence of an earlier door system was identified. We recreated the doorway with Indiana limestone steps and new balusters in keeping with the rhythm, line and perspective. A custom-made door was installed to match interior profiles.
