 Hotel St. Clair
Columbus, Ohio
This historic building was virtually abandonded for decades, and was recently restored with financial help from historic tax credits and grants. This financing required all repairs to match the existing architectural details or to be recreated from historic photographs.
Originally built in 1910 as the St. Clair Hospital, the building was later converted into a hotel that served predominantly African-Americans, including many nationally renowned musical acts. Today, this beautifully restored building functions as senior housing.

A historical photograph was used to aid the recreation of the porch. The exterior trim was manufactured and installed to match the original architectural specifications. |

Rubber roofing material was removed from the box gutter of this beautiful structure. A new gutter system with copper downspouts was installed. Bead board on the finished porch ceiling is also visible. |

The corners were completely rebuilt and strengthened with new framing for the interior moldings. |

The porch ceiling and support structure is under repair with new rafters and decking. |

The Hotel St. Clair was renovated to create senior citizen apartments. The building had been vacant for years and, without maintenance, had deteriorated significantly. Durable Restoration was contracted to stabilize and restore the porch, install a new slate roof, and rebuild the built-in gutter system. |
